Colorado Horses

Ancestors of the modern horse once roamed North America, however they became extinct more than 10,000 years ago. Spaniards reintroduced horses in the 1500s when they explored and settled the area. The Little Book Cliffs Wild Horse Area in Colorado is one of only three ranges in the United States set aside specifically to protect wild and free roaming horses. From 90 to 150 wild horses roam this rugged land and aspen crusted mountain vistas. Karen Strum renders the beauty of these gentle creatures in exquisite detail with her pastel painting “Colorado Horses.”
