Over the years, many Classics have been re-examined for problematic stereotypes as society continues to progress. For example, novels such as Tom Sawyer and Doctor Dolittle that were once required reading at many schools are now receiving criticism and are often being edited for containing unfair stereotypes. The following books have been banned or challenged due to the use of ethnic slurs, the promotion of Black Nationalism, or references to slavery. Other steortypes have been included as well. For instance, Roald Dahl's book, Matilda, was banned because of his negative portrayal of adults.
