1933 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE Jane Austin Hardcover Dust Jacket

1933 edition of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE by Jane Austin. It is a hardcover with a custom cut clear archival sleeve. The front and backcover had prioviously been detached and had loose pages. The covers were put back in place using clear permanent library book binding tape on the spine. You are still able to see the gilt lettering. Some pages may still be loose. Because the covers were crumbling, a removable sleeve was added for protection.

Pride and Prejudice is an 1813 novel of manners by Jane Austin. The novel follows  Elizabeth Bennet, the main character, who learns about the repercussions of hasty judgments and comes to appreciate the difference between superficial goodness and actual goodness. Schools and parents have banned the book because it included lying, spying, tantrums, and swearing.  Interestingly enough, Austen didn’t put her name on her novels and would only say they were “By a Lady.” The title page of Pride and Prejudice said, “by the author of Sense and Sensibility.” It wasn’t until after her death that her brother revealed her name to the public.
