This novel emerged during the Civil Rights Movement. It argues that the prevailing standards of beauty are racist. Toni Morrison's 'The Bluest Eye,' has been banned from prisons and schools. Some of the reasons it is banned in prisons include that it could pose a threat to the order and security of the institution and schools are concerned about its sexually explicit material and disturbing language.
