1947 GOODNIGHT MOON Margaret Wise Brown Hardcover DJ BCE

Regular price $120.00

This is a 1947 book club edition of Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Pictures By Clement Hurd. It was published by Harper & Row, Publishers. The dust jacket has been placed in a new, clear archival wrapper for protection. The jacket had three tears that were closed on the backside with professional book binder's tape that won't discolor with age. The binding is sound, and the interior pages lack obvious signs of being dog-eared or of having inscriptions or marginalization.

Goodnight Moon is a bedtime staple that some say is important because it helps children fall asleep. The book is about a young rabbit's bedtime routine, and its repetition, quietude, and comforting rhythmic patterns help children drift off to sleep. In 1947 when the book was first published, the head of the New York Public Library children's department didn't like the book  and she used a rubber stamp to mark it, "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PURCHASE BY EXPERT". She called it "overly sentimental" and believed that children should be weaned off of myths and legends and that stories should have morals. If you celebrate the freedom to read, Goodnight Moon is an excellent book to add to your library.
