1950s Circa FRANKENSTEIN Mary Shelley Hardcover Dust Jacket

Regular price $335.00

This vintage hardcover edition of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is a must-have for any collector of science fiction literature. The book features a beautiful dust jacket in a clear archival sleeve and black and white  illustrations. Written in English, the novel tells the story of Victor Frankenstein. There is no remark, but I believe it was published by Halcyon House in the 1950s based on when the publisher was active. The pages are top stained and it has information written in pencil on the front end page.

On January 1, 1818, “Frankenstein: or, The Modern Prometheus” by Mary Shelley was published. Shelley started writing the story when she was 18, and the first edition was published anonymously when she was 20. 'Frankenstein' is not only the first creation story to use scientific experimentation as its method, but it also presents a framework for narratively examining the morality and ethics of the experiment and experimenter. The quest for knowledge was one of the most controversial themes because of the use of science being utilized for evil frightened people at the time. Over the years, it has been banned for being indecent, obscene, and for portraying the death of a young child.  If you celebrate the freedom to read, this collectible copy of Frankenstein by the world's greatest science fiction writer is a great addition to your library.
