1975 RAGTIME E.L. Doctorow First Edition Hardcover Dust Jacket
This is a 1975 hardcover edition of RAGTIME by E.L. Doctorow. It is a First Edition fourth printing. The dust jacket is worn around the edges and there is a stain inside the front flap which has transferred on to the first page. There aren't any other obvious signs of inscriptions, marginalization, or dog-eared pages. The binding of the book is sound.
Ragtime was published in 1975 and is considered Doctorow's best novel. A work of historical fiction, Ragtime focuses on a wealthy family in early twentieth century New York. Doctorow championed numerous causes promoting the right to global freedom of expression. In the January 1988 issue of Index on Censorship magazine, he was noted, along with a multitude of other American writers, as having been monitored extensively by the FBI due to his works being considered, “subversive, suspicious or unconventional”. If you are a collector of banned books, this is one you want on your library shelf.
