The Hunt for Red October is the debut novel by American author Tom Clancy, first published in 1984 by the Naval Institute Press. The 1975 mutiny aboard the Soviet destroyer Storozhevoy provided inspiration for the novel. The Soviet Union frequently criticized Clancy's work throughout the 1980s and the media viewed him as a "Pentagon Songster" saying that he made his fortune on by exploiting the enmity between the two countries. If you are a collector of banned books, this controversial novel is an excellent addition for your library shelf.
