Little Women was challenged when it was first published because Alcott was both an abolitionist and a feminist. She was a supporter of women's suffrage and, subsequently, the first woman to register to vote in Concord, Massachusetts. However, modern-day feminists have challenged the novel for just the opposite reason, they criticize its portrayal of traditional gender roles- specifically, the role of women in the home. If you are a collector of banned books, this is one you will want on your library Shelf.
