The Stranger by Albert Camus is important because it explores themes that are central to his philosophy, including absurdity and existentialism. The novel also highlights other themes, such as the meaninglessness of human life, the irrationality of the universe, and the existential crisis of the main character, Meursault. The Stranger sparked major controversy in France for its bleak philosophy on life's meaning and portrayal of a detached, emotionally numb protagonist. Challenged as recently as 2016 in Texas for "offense to religious sensitivities," if you celebrate the freedom to read, "The Stranger" by Albert Camus is an excellent addition to your library.
