2021 WIZARD OF OZ "Follow The Yellow Brick Road" Original 7x5 Painting

Regular price $135.00

This is one of my original paintings using 3D dimensional paint which I completed in September of 2024. Using techniques I learned as a henna artist working on Clearwater Beach, I designed this multi-colored line art rendition of Dorothy and her friends on The Yellow Brick Road. The artwork measures 7" wide and 5" inches tall. I mounted it on a 10x8 foam board. It has a double mat cut to fit those measurements and is in a black wood frame. The information for the painting is attached to the back of the piece.

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a children's novel written by author L. Frank Baum in 1900. It's about girl named Dorothy who ends up in the magical Land of Oz after she and her pet dog are swept away from their home on a Kansas farm by a tornado. Like many young girls, I was drawn to the book because it's depiction of a strong female character in a leadership role.  For that very reason in 1928 all Chicago public libraries banned the book for its feminist theme and called it "ungodly". Since then, the novel has been adapted to stage and screen numerous times, including the most recent "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West", which was based on the 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire. It is a much more adult version of the original story. Books that feature strong female characters like Dorothy are important to me. It gives me someone to admire and to aspire to be like.
