Custom Illustrated Postcards – Quirky Cartoons with a Retro Twist

I genuinely enjoy every chance I get to create custom cartoons for clients—it’s one of my favorite parts of the job. The images you see here are from a postcard I illustrated and designed for a dog trainer in Minnesota. She specialized in one-on-one dog training and had experience working with service dogs. She asked me to design both the front and back of a postcard to promote her services, and I had a blast bringing it to life.

I created the illustrations using my signature lemon-headed characters and a fun, retro color palette that gives off a nostalgic, feel-good vibe. I also wrote the jokes! (Just a heads-up: I designed her logo too, but that was a separate side project.)

This particular postcard was full color, but I can absolutely work in black and white or with spot colors if that’s more your style. Most of my postcard designs are single-panel cartoons, sized to fit about a quarter of a page—but I can adjust the dimensions to suit your needs. If your design includes dialogue, I’m more than happy to collaborate on the humor.

Once your design is done, I’ll email you the final digital file, ready for print. You’re welcome to handle the printing yourself, or—like the dog trainer—I can upload the artwork to an online printer for you for an extra fee to make things easier. If you’re planning to mail your postcards directly through a service, I can also follow your preferred shipper’s printing specifications so the final design includes space for mailing addresses, barcodes, and postage as needed.
