1907 TALE OF PETER RABBIT Beatrix Potter Hardcover

This is a 1907 edition of Beatrix Potter's "Tale of Peter Rabbit" published by Henry Altemus  Company. It is a hardcover with pictorial boards and it is slightly cocked. The book shows overall wear and deterioration to the spine. The front hinge is loose as well as at least one page. There is an inscription and writing on the front end page. Pages were printed broadside, only on one side.

Beatrix Potter remains one of the world's best-selling and best-loved children's authors. She wrote and illustrated 28 books. As a female artist and writer, she inspired many.  In the 1980s, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, as well as Benjamin Bunny, were banned by London schools for only portraying “middle-class rabbits.” These rabbits were seen as having too much privilege according to its critics. Potter was a farmer and conservationist, saving an entire breed of sheep from extinction. In addition to drawing mushrooms and fungi, she collected and observed mushroom specimens.  Eventually, this led her to write her theories and findings in a paper.  If you celebrate the freedom to read Beatrix Potter's books are an excellent addition to your library.
