Anne Frank was a German girl and Jewish victim of the Holocaust who is famous for keeping a diary of her experiences. Anne and her family went into hiding for two years to avoid Nazi persecution. Her documentation of this time is now published in The Diary of a Young Girl. Her diary is regarded by scholars as an incredible first-hand account of what life was like for a Jewish girl during German occupation.  This novel has been banned in schools and brought before school boards because parents objected to Frank's discussion of the female menstrual cycle and felt the book was too depressing for children to read. If you celebrate the freedom to read, this is an auto biographical work that is a great addition to your library.
