Stephen King's 1991 novel "Needful Things"  focuses on a shop that sells collectibles and antiques, managed by Leland Gaunt, a new arrival to the town of Castle Rock, Maine. Gaunt asks customers to perform a prank or mysterious deed in exchange for the item they are drawn to. Through its vivid characters and gripping plot, Stephen King delivers a cautionary tale about the dangers of giving in to our darkest impulses, and the importance of resisting the allure of 'needful things' that promise to fulfill our deepest desires at a terrible cost. According to  the Miami New Times, more than 50 books of King's have been banned in Florida schools—and there are plenty more that are pending. In a statement shared with Newsweek, King said: "I have said it before, and will say it again: When books are banned from school libraries, run to your public library, or the nearest bookstore, and read what it is your elders don't want you to know." If you celebrate the freedom to read, "Needful Things" by Stephen King is an excellent addition to your library.
