Retro Kitty Cat Henna Tattoo – Jagua Gel Design with Paws

I created this playful kitty cat henna tattoo to match the fabric of a retro 1950s-style dress. The design includes two sets of paw prints, just like the pattern in the fabric, and fits perfectly along the forearm. It’s a cute throwback that would look right at home at a sock hop!

I use jagua gel for this tattoo, which stains the skin a deep bluish-black. It’s made from a fruit native to the Amazon that’s been used by Indigenous peoples for generations. While it’s generally considered safe, I don’t recommend it if you’re allergic to berries like strawberries or blueberries.

When you get the tattoo, the gel will stay wet for about an hour unless you sit in front of a fan. For the best results, try to leave it on your skin for at least 3–6 hours before washing it off. Don’t panic if the design seems invisible at first—that’s totally normal! The stain will darken gradually over the next 24 to 48 hours.

If the gel starts flaking off too soon, you can spritz a bit of hairspray over it to help keep it in place. And if you’re heading to bed before washing it off, be sure to cover the area to avoid transferring the stain to other parts of your body in your sleep.
