Go big or go home is a slogan that dares one to accomplish their dreams. Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali are two fine artists who were experts at publicity stunts and will be studied in marketing classes. Publicity stunts can be a cost effective method of gaining recognition especially when traditional marketing costs may be preventative.
A limited color palette is just like what it sounds like, the palette is restricted to a few select colors. Novices often go to the art supply store and are dazzled by the colors available but the more experienced artists know using only a select few is a tried and true method of palette selection.
If you are a left-handed artist you might be more unique than you think! Sure, lefties make up about 12 percent of Americans, however a French study reported in Revue Neurologique in 1995 studied 500 artists and determined only 2.8 – 4.7% were left-handed, an even lower percentage than the general population.
For the pastel painting “Mockingbird and Cypress Myrtle” I was fortunate enough to find the perfect reference photo in my friend Gary Soodak's personal collection of photography. I was able to create an endearing portrait of a mockingbird by using the Rule of Thirds and the Rule of Space to add depth, control eye flow, and impart a sense of wonder.
Took a punch in the ego? Dealing with feedback can be easier with a good strategy. The first step is having a defined creative process that allows for client input. The second involves strong communication skills and a positive mind set.
