Regular price $140.00

This 1963 edition of Anthony Burgess's "A Clockwork Orange" is complete with a dust jacket that has been recently put in a custom cut clear archival sleeve. The dust jacket has a couple stray marks and minimal edge wear.  This hardcover book from W. W. Norton & Company is a book club edition.  The binding is sturdy, and the pages are in excellent condition. Name written inside front cover.

Burgess argues in the novel that if one can only perform good or only perform evil, then he is a clockwork orange—meaning that he has the appearance of an organism lovely with color and juice but is in fact only a clockwork toy to be wound up by God or the Devil. It has faced multiple book banning attempts due to its violence and language. Ohers argued that the novel raised important ethical questions, such as whether it is better for a person to decide to be bad than to be forced to be good and if forcibly suppressing free will is acceptable. If you celebrate the freedom to read, A Clockwork Orange is an important piece of literature to have on your library shelf.
