Harriet the Spy is a children's novel written and illustrated by Louise Fitzhugh that was published in 1964. It has been called "a milestone in children's literature" and a "classic".  However, according to the NPR feature “Unapologetically Harriet, the Misfit Spy," the book was banned and challenged through much of the Southern United States by parents and teachers who felt Harriet was a poor role model for children because she exhibited delinquent tendencies. If you are a collector of banned books, this piece of children's literature is one you want on your bookshelf.
